Frequently Asked Questions
Questions:
- What is chiropractic?
- Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body). "Chiropractic" comes from the Greek word chiropraktikos, meaning "effective treatment by hand." Chiropractic stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body's inability to adapt to its environment. It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting a musculoskeletal area of the body which is functioning improperly.
- What conditions benefit from chiropractic care?
- Although chiropractic is used most frequently to relieve low back pain, studies have found it to be effective for a variety of conditions, such as migraine headaches, neck and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and infantile colic.
- Does Chiropractic hurt?
- Under normal circumstances, adjustments don't hurt. The patient may experience a minor amount of discomfort during the adjustment which lasts only seconds.
- Is Chiropractic safe?
- Chiropractic adjustments or manipulations are extremely safe. The risk factor is estimated to be in excess of one million to one.
- What kind of education and training do doctors of chiropractic have?
- Chiropractors receive an education that emphasizes neuromuscular diagnosis and treatment. Preparation for the practice of chiropractic is concentrated on three areas of learning; basic training in the biological and health sciences (anatomy, physiology, histology, biochemistry, clinical and radiological diagnosis); specialized training in the chiropractic discipline (theoretical studies, practice, diagnosis and applications); and extensive clinical training.
- Have any studies been published showing what chiropractic is effective for?
- Several studies have documented the effectiveness of chiropractic in relieving back pain. More recent studies have shown chiropractic to be effective in treating infantile colic and migraine headaches.
- What can I expect on my first visit?
- The first thing a chiropractor will do is ask you about the health complaints about which you are chiefly concerned. The DC will also ask about your family history, dietary habits, other care you may have had (chiropractic, osteopathic, medical, etc.), your job, and other questions designed to help determine the nature of your illness and the best way to go about treating the problem.
A physical examination will be performed in accordance with your DC's clinical judgement, which may include x-rays, laboratory analysis and other diagnostic procedures. In addition, a careful spinal examination and analysis will be performed to detect any structural abnormalities which may be affecting or causing your condition. All of these elements are important components of your total health profile, and vital to the doctor of chiropractic in evaluating your problem.

- The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse System "The Most Advanced Pain Management Technology"
- So, what does Pope John Paul have in common with athletes like Michael Jordan, Jack Nicholas, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky, Joan Benoit and Terry Bradshaw? And stars like Pavarotti, Steven Segal, Lee Majors, Cloris Leachman, Sharon Farrel and a list to long to mention? Read on.
Pain, Pain go away…
Veteran golfer Jack Nicholas, Olympic champions Joan Benoit and Mary Decker, football stars Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana, hockey great Wayne Gretzky, are among the many athletes who have had dramatic results being treated by the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse.
Jack Nicholas was so impressed by the treatments. Says Nicholas: "I've had tendonitis problems in both my wrists and my elbows…I got tremendous results. It stopped hurting. And what I really like about it is that you can't over-treat on it." He further claims that the equipment helped prolong his golfing career, assisting his healing process with a variety of other injuries and surgeries. Football star, Terry Bradshaw used the machine after he severely injured his elbow in one of his games. "After four treatments, I was out of pain and back in the games."
Joan Benoit won her Olympic marathon trials only seventeen days after arthroscopic knee surgery with a week's worth of treatments with the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse equipment.
Caution: Possible side effect—you may look younger after this treatment!
Cloris Leachman, one of many Hollywood stars who has also had successful Acuscope treatments. "I had chronic pain in my neck for a really long time. Now it's over, thanks to this wonderful instrument." Cloris also uses the special facial rejuvenation unit of the Acuscope to look younger. She says that the therapy made her look and feel ten to fifteen years younger and that's certainly what photos reveal. Many people have received facial treatments with such remarkable results that they did not require laser or plastic surgery. It creates a natural face lift and also dramatically reduces lines and wrinkles.
- Extraordinary Medical Treatment for Pain
- The Acuscope is currently being used by chiropractors, physical therapist's, professional athletic teams, sports medicine practices, hospitals, private physicians, psychologists, and therapists in every health care field throughout the world. The following conditions have successfully been treated using the electroacuscope and myopulse:
Acute and chronic sprains and strains, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, fractures, torn muscles and ligaments, neuralgias (for example shingles), overuse injuries (carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, etc.), neck and back pains, TMJ problems, bell's palsy headaches, neuromas, and so-called "pinched nerves."
Other treatable conditions include wound healing (ulcers, burns, slow healing incisions, painful scars), chronic pain, PMS, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, cancer pain, seizure disorders, diabetic neuropathy, any type of surgery–from minor ones all the way up to heart and liver transplants.
It is very effective in treating infections, reflex sympathetic disorders, sleep disorders and chronic fatigue symptoms. It does wonders in healing scar tissue, and is widely used to speed up recovery after plastic surgery as well. Many women who have had problems after they have gotten breast implants seek treatment with the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse because it is so effective at breaking up the scar tissue and reducing the scars!
In addition, it is shown to be effective in dealing with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions (smoking, drugs, etc.), and other emotional issues.
- What is the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse?
- The Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse represents a dynamic concept in healing. Its high degree of effectiveness in pain relief and promotion of healing is based upon a series of electric and electromagnetic manipulations of the patient's tissues.
The development of the Electro-Accuscope is based on space-age computer technology intended for the non-invasive control of pain without the use of needles or gross amounts of electricity.
The Electro-Acuscope is simply an input device that continuously monitors the electrical activity of the body and treats according to the information that is fed into its computers. In other words, the body is tuning the instrument for an individualized treatment rather than the instrument treating with some preset parameter.
- How Does It Work?
- Complex Science—Simple Treatments
This space age technology was developed by none other than Dr. Anthony Nebrinski, a scientist who works on U.S. missile systems and the strategic defense initiative (STAR WARS), and who was also responsible for the development of the EEG, EKG, and EMG. The hour long treatments have many people experiencing amazing results. Its rapid ability to help the body heal itself is explained as follows.
The human body functions through electrical conductivity, with different currents flowing through connective channels, such as muscle, bone and neural tissue. When a person is injured, the body's normal conductivity in the damaged tissue is altered. The machine locates the problem area and introduces a gentle corrective current in waveforms similar to the body's own electrical currents at a hundred times per second to normalize it.
This increases the electrical activity of the affected tissue so that cells can begin the work of self repair. By using electrical current to help supply the inside of the cell with raw materials (amino acids and calcium) for synthesizing necessary proteins and to encourage the formation of ATP in order to provide the "power" for protein synthesis, one can then accelerate cellular repair.
The effects of treatment have proven to be even more profound than these obvious clinical results. In numerous studies, micro-current stimulation was found to have an amazing effect on living tissue at the cellular level. In one landmark study, it was discovered that stimulation with electrical currents below 1 mA (milliamp) actually improves cellular metabolism. In particular, ATP production is increased, protein synthesis greatly enhanced and normal cell membrane potential is restored.
Over a series of treatments, the current opens up the damaged area to blood flow and circulation so that the body can begin its own natural healing. The system is able to treat both acute and chronic conditions.
- What are the treatment benefits?
- In addition to providing the body with beneficial electrical currents, the treatment causes the body to produce its own natural pain reducing chemicals called "endorphins." The immediate pain relieving results of a treatment may therefore be considered an electro-chemical response occurring in the involved area at a cellular level.
Usually the patient will feel the results during or within several hours after the first or second treatment. A single treatment is often followed by hours or days of relief. Since the effects are cumulative, each additional treatment generally takes less and less time.
You may feel tingling or some discomfort during the treatment but most patients feel a bruised sensation over the affected area. A few patients have reported they felt soreness of the treated area for 24-48 hours after the treatment similiar to a deep tissue massage. If ear points (Auricular therapy) are indicated the patient may feel a transient burning sensation.
